Google’s Enterprise division has been celebrating a successful week at GITEX TECHNOLOGY WEEK, with the number of enquiries from potential customers exceeding the company’s expectations.

Google says it has been swamped with CIOs and other business figures trying to find out what the vendor can offer them.

It feels the huge interest in Google at GITEX was down to its culture of innovation. “There is a natural enthusiasm for innovation in the Middle East, and because of that, there is a natural enthusiasm for companies like Google,” says Abdel Wahed Bendaoua, Head of Enterprise at Google Middle East.

He also says that many of the companies that have visited the company knew that they wanted to adopt cloud services, but were unsure how to go about it.

“Many of the people who we’ve spoken to want to move to the cloud, but they simply don’t know how to do it,” he says. “They’re asking companies like Google how to do it. Customers don’t really want to have to invest in IT — they want to be able to leverage an IT solution to enable their business goals. It’s crucial for them to understand that the more they move into the cloud, the more time they have to focus on running their business. It’s no longer about also having to worry about managing an IT infrastructure, as well as having to deal with issues surrounding application management and combining it with the business strategy,” he concludes.
