Extron Electronics is showcasing its VN decoding and encoding system at GITEX TECHNOLOGY WEEK this year in addition to unveiling a new wall-control panel as part of its TouchLink range of products.

The VN system allows real-time streaming of HD video content over IP networks, enabling video collaboration and breaking down logistical barriers associated with traditional hardware solutions. Video and graphical content is encoded at high-resolutions, delivered across the network and then decoded back to its original resolution thanks to what the manufacturer says is a “revolutionary wavelet-based compression technology.”

On show for the first ever time is a wall-mounted control panel which offers complete control over hardware linked via the manufacturer’s TouchLink solution. Senior Sales Manager for the Middle East, Ali Al Daghistani says the major factor that sets TouchLink apart from its competitors is its ease of use. “Unlike others that need an IT person to control them, our system can be controlled by anyone after just a day’s training,” he says. “The system is configurable, not programmable,” he explains, adding that this results in a solution that is simpler and costs less.

One of the most popular applications of the product is in the education sector, where laptops, desktops, projectors and other AV equipment can be automated; allowing usability at the touch of the button.

“This lets teachers and lecturers focus on what they’re there to do – teach and lecture, rather than spending their time trying to figure out how to switch on a projector, for example,” explains Al Daghistani.
