IT security is set to be a major theme of this year’s GITEX TECHNOLOGY WEEK, with a number of conference tracks also dedicated to the topic.

On Tuesday 19 October, Guru Prasad, General Manager of Strategic Alliances and Channel Development at FVC, will brief attendees on the dos and don’ts of drafting a security policy, while the following day Blue Coat’s VP for EMEA Marketing, Nigel Hawthorn will explain the measures companies can  take to prevent data loss.

Meanwhile, senior executives from leading security providers such as BT, Fortinet, Orange Jordan and Safenet will discuss the steps that businesses need to take to maximise their network security at a panel discussion scheduled for Wednesday 20 October.

Global spending on IT security is estimated to rise to US$60 billion this year as the online threat landscape continues to evolve and grow. According to research company RNCOS, IT security spend in the Middle East is projected to grow 12% over the next three years as governments and financial firms adopt advanced security solutions.

IT security companies are set to take centre stage at this year’s show, with many of the sector’s largest vendors set to showcase a range of the latest security products, including IT security appliances, services and software.

Trixee Loh, Senior Vice President, Dubai World Trade Centre, organiser of GITEX, says security is a key focus area at this year’s GITEX TECHNOLOGY WEEK and will address the growing need for a safe and secure technology environment among consumers and businesses.

“The event attracts leading vendors such as Kaspersky, Trend Micro Middle East and Symantec who will showcase the most advanced IT security solutions to protect consumers and businesses in the region,” she says.

“The event also provides a strategic platform to discuss issues relating to security and keep businesses informed of the latest security technologies and trends.”
