A senior executive of Emirates Telecommunications Corporation (Etisalat) has denied the firm is scrapping its Al Shamil internet service, it was reported Thursday.

Khalifa Al Shamsi, senior vice-president for marketing affairs, told the Arabic daily Emarat Al Youm, cited by Emirates Business 24/7, the firm had been inundated with applications for online services.

"Our e-live bouquets received an overwhelming response from subscribers." Al Shamsi told the paper.

"The bouquet of is a new additional option providing higher speeds than those available through the service of Al Shamil. Al Shamil service with speeds such as 256 and 512 kb per second are still available for subscribers."

He denied reports from some subscribers that Etisalat was refusing to accept new applications for Al Shamil and instead forcing customers to sign up to the more expensive e-live service.

One customer Mayad Fadhel told the paper that when he tried to subscribe to Al Shamil a customer service representative said the service was suspended.

You should complain to the TRA immediately. This is a clear violation of the regulatory framework.
