Latest research on the state of the consumer electronics market in the UAE suggests that the value of the sector will increase to AED10 billion (US$2.7billion) this year. According to Business Monitor International, a tech-savvy population and rise in tourist numbers are key reasons why this market is becoming a major growth sector among emerging markets in the Middle East.

“The consumer electronics market in the Middle East is exhibiting strong growth to offer innovative and feature rich devices along with consumers looking at the latest tools for productivity and infotainment.” says Trixee Loh, SVP at Dubai World Trade Centre, organisers of GITEX TECHNOLOGY WEEK.

“This year’s Consumer Electronics segment will showcase the variety of innovations for strong consumer demand, as well as serve as a dynamic platform where both vendors and consumers can promote and discover the new world of applications, and capitalise on the revolution brought about by digital IT,” says Loh.

Trends indicate that 3D technology and feature-rich notebooks will lead the market. Smartphones, high-end gaming and digital solutions will also play a major part in the anticipated growth.

Kamal Kumar, Partner at Touchmate Middle East, which will participate in the Consumer Electronics segment of the show, says: “Manufacturers are looking forward to 2010, as the year proves to be rewarding with introduction of the latest technology such as 3D, Blue-Ray, touchscreen, smartphones and notebooks built with efficient applications. We aim to leverage our participation at GITEX to showcase a wide range of electronics for home, office and individuals this year.”
