Hypermarket chain Carrefour is seeking to cement its status as one of the UAE's most formidable IT and electronics suppliers by making it possible for consumers to buy products online.

The company has launched an e-commerce store - available at - allowing UAE-based customers to purchase cameras, mobiles, printers, gaming products, TVs and home appliances though the web.

Carrefour says more than 3,000 non-food items will be listed online. This includes garden furniture, homeware and some cosmetic items as well as IT.

"We live in the age of the internet and as Carrefour is committed to offering customers choice, flexibility and convenience, launching an online store seemed the next natural step for us in the region," stated Henry Changeux, GCC country head of Carrefour.

The hypermarket - which is already the largest retail account for many IT vendors in the Middle East - says free delivery is available on all orders over AED1,000 (US$270) and an average of AED12 (US$3) for any orders under this amount. All items will be delivered to each customer's home addresses by UPS.

"The webstore gives customers the opportunity to browse through thousands of products, while comparing different brands and features at a time that suits them," said Changuex.
