The nomination process for the 2010 ACN Arab Technology Awards has now opened. Here’s our all-you-need-to-know guide to entering the regional IT industry’s most prestigious awards event of the year.

Tell me about the ACN Arab Technology Awards.

The ACN Arab Technology Awards is the must-attend IT event of the year for the regional technology community and recognises the excellent work that has been carried out in the Middle East enterprise market over the past 12 months. With awards for world-class projects and implementations, leading vendor contributions and outstanding individual efforts - including the CIO of the Year - the ACN Arab Technology Awards are the most prestigious IT industry awards in the Middle East.

When will it take place?

The winners of the Awards will be revealed at a gala dinner and ceremony in Dubai on Monday 18th October in Dubai, held in parallel with GITEX Technology Week. This year’s Awards will be attended by upwards of 300 leading technology professionals, offering an unrivalled networking and business development opportunity. Deadline for nominations is Thursday 9th September.

I wish to nominate for an end-user project award. Can I nominate myself?

Yes, you can. In fact, anybody involved in a project - end user, integrator, consultant or vendor can send in a nomination. Just make sure that you include details and contacts for the user, vendor or integrator on the nomination form.

How long should my nomination be?

Nominations should include a synopsis of the project that is at least 500 words long.

What details should I include in my project nomination?

You should include any or all of the following details:

• Product, system or solution implemented
• Business requirements behind the project selection criteria and decision process for choosing system
• Specific reasons behind the choice of the final system
• Start date and length of implementation
• Details of the implementation, including planning and delivery
• Details of how the new system fits into existing IT infrastructure
• Return on investment of project
• Future plans involving new system
• Size of company/organisation (sites, customers, IT deptartment)
• Brief outline of any other recent IT projects

What about the individual awards? I am a CIO - does that mean I can vote for myself or my IT department?

Nominations for the individual categories must come from a party other than the nominee – although there is nothing to stop you from encouraging somebody to nominate on your behalf. So long as you are working as a CIO or IT manager in the Middle East region you can be nominated.

I am a vendor – can I nominate my company in the vendor categories?

Yes, you can. Nominations just need to include a 500 word synopsis of the company’s achievements.

What information should the nomination include?

Nomination forms should ideally include the following information:

- Number of staff dedicated to enterprise computing
- Details of investments made into the enterprise computing community
- Brief overview of five completed projects or implementations
- Future plans for involvement in the Middle East’s enterprise computing community

What sort of timeframe does the awards cover?

Nominations should be for recent initiatives, achievements and successes. Anything older than 12 months is unlikely to be successful.

How can I improve my chances of winning an award?

Start working on your nomination as soon as possible. Read the online nomination criteria, keep your entry to the point and focus on your company’s achievements.
