Adoption rates for Windows 7 are speeding up, according to Microsoft.

The company sold 25 million copies of the OS during the last month alone, chief financial officer Peter Klein revealed during the company’s quarterly earnings call. He also revealed that 15% of computers worldwide now run on Windows 7.

“With over 175 million licenses sold to date, it is the fastest selling operating system ever, and now runs on over 15% of all PCs worldwide,” said Klein.

On Tuesday, Microsoft credited strong sales of Windows 7, as well as the release of Office 2010, for its record breaking second quarter results of $16bn. Its second quarter earnings were up 22% on the same time in 2009, despite the economy remaining sluggish.
