Apple has announced that it sold 1.7 million of its new iPhone 4 mobiles in the first three days of availability.

The company said that the 24th June launch was the most successful product launch in its history.

Apple CEO Steve Jobs commented: "This is the most successful product launch in Apple's history. Even so, we apologize to those customers who were turned away because we did not have enough supply."

The launch of the iPhone 4 has not been totally successful, with many users reporting problems with signal strength after a design flaw resulted in the antennae effectively being blocked by the users hand.

Apple also had to postpone the launch of white coloured iPhone 4 models to the second half of July, as they had "proven more challenging to manufacture than expected", according to a company statement.
