New Philips kit transforms LCD TVs into 3D TVs
Expected to retail in the United Arab Emirates for around AED 1,500
While brands like Samsung, LG, Panasonic and Sony are pushing dedicated 3D television models in the region, Philips has taken a more novel approach by instead launching a special ‘3D TV kit' that, once installed, allows their new range of LCD televisions to support 3D.
The optional 3D TV kit, which includes the software required, 3D glasses and a 3D Blu Ray player, will be sold for around AED 1,500, confirmed a Philips spokesperson at the launch of the company's 2010 line of green consumer electronics.
The kit will only be compatible with Philips high-end 8000 and 9000 LCD TV series so as to maintain picture quality.
As part of its EcoVision plan, the new range of televisions launched by Philips in the Middle East sees significant green improvements.
The company's new LED backlight powered TVs are said to be 40% - 50% more energy efficient than regular LCD TVs, with only 0.15W consumption during standby. Their slim bezel TVs are now said to consume 30% less plastic and eliminates the use of hazardous substances. Philips also began using electronic user manuals last year, doing away with traditional paper manuals entirely. This action alone saves 25,000 trees every year.
The company will be introducing twenty new green television models with varying specifications this year, with prices starting from AED 7,000.
Both the 3D TV kit and compatible TV models will be available in stores across the United Arab Emirates next month.
Vincenzo Ventricelli, marketing director for Philips Consumer Lifestyle Division for Middle East and Africa, revealed the company aims to generate 30% of its revenue through environmentally friendly products by the year 2012.
