Jumbo Electronics has announced the appointment of Deepak Khetrapal as its new CEO following the departure of Peter McElwaine earlier this month.

Khetrapal is a former COO and whole-time director of Mumbai-based Raymonds Limited, a global textiles company.

He has more than three decades' experience in industries such as banking, distribution, manufacturing and retail. He started his career with the State Bank of India and was also the CEO and managing director of Steelage Industries.

V Chhabria, chairperson at Jumbo Electronics, says Khetrapal has a proven track record of orchestrating aggressive expansion strategies in various lines of business, making him the "ideal leader" of its group during a crucial time.

"The expansion of our retail network is well underway. Consumer electronics in the region is expected to be growing at a very high pace and Jumbo is determined to not only defend its leadership position but further build on the successes achieved so far," she said. "At the same time our non-retail business is seeing very healthy returns and for it to remain so we need an internationally experienced operator with a highly diverse background."

Peter McElwaine, the previous CEO, left Jumbo this month after two years with the company.
