UAE telecom operator Etisalat has announced that it has completed the roll out of its HSPA+ mobile network to cities in the UAE.

Etisalat claims that its 3G network, which it says covers 99% of UAE's populated area, is now "the fastest and the widest in the Middle East".

High speed packet access (HSPA+) is an enhancement of the 3G services offered by GSM mobile operators, and Etisalat says it will now be able to offer mobile broadband speeds of up to 21MB for downloads and up to 11MB for uploads, in peak conditions.

Senior vice president of marketing at Etisalat, Khalifa Al Shamsi, said: "With the exponential growth of smartphones, application stores, mobile internet modems and 3G compatible devices, UAE residents are embracing wireless data and services like never before.

Al Shamsi added that Etisalat's "new advancement", which it began rolling out in 2006, reaches nearly 900,000 of its 3G mobile broadband customers across the country.

Etisalat charges AED395 (US$107) for its 10GB data package and AED145 ($39) for 1GB.

$107 per month for 10GB. Ouch. Make it less than $20 per month for unlimited data and then we should be on par with the developed world.
