Sony has launched the world's slimmest waterproof digital still camera, the Cyber-shot DSC-TX5, in the Middle East.

The 16.7mm deep camera is dustproof, shockproof and weather-resistant, Sony says, as well as being waterproof to 3m.

The camera has a 25mm Carl Zeiss wide-angle lens, 3 inch screen and is compatible with Memory Stick PRO Duo, Memory Stick PRO-HG, SD or SDHC memory cards.

For image processing it packs an Exmor R CMOS sensor with 10.2 effective mega pixels, and BIONZ image processor. It also features Backlight Correction HDR technology, which takes two exposures, one to capture shadow detail and the other to capture highlight detail, with both exposures merged in a single JPEG image for maximum dynamic range and natural colours.

The camera is available in five different colours, and additional accessories including a soft case that helps dry the camera once it is wet and a floating strap to avoid losing it in water.
