Data centre solutions specialist TechXact has unveiled next generation Fire Prevention Systems for the first time in the region.

The company, which provides data centre solutions and services to clients worldwide, today showcased Wagner's Oxyreduct fire prevention system, which aims to eliminate the possibility of fires occurring in the data centre.

TechXact is hosting a special one day event today at the Emirates Palace Hotel, Abu Dhabi, to present the latest in data centre technology, including green programs.

Mehdi Paryavi, president of TechXact commented: "Techxact is introducing some of the most advanced systems currently available in the market. With green initiatives taking centre stage, and given today's business and environmental requirement, we are emphasizing on green solutions for the market. The conference is also focusing on innovations being introduced in this field and how companies can make the best use of available technologies."

The Oxyreduct fire prevention system works by reducing the level of oxygen in a closed data centre environment, to below a point at which a fire is able to ignite, thereby removing the possibility of a blaze. The system replaces the oxygen with harmless nitrogen, creating a safe working environment, in comparison to some fire suppression systems which use gasses that can be deadly to humans.

By preventing fire from breaking out, the system aims to eliminate any loss of revenue due to services interruption. Depending on the operating sector, data centre downtime can result in losses ranging from $1,300,000 per hour to $2,800,000 per hour, according to research by the META Group.

Luai A Jezawi, director of business development (MEA) at techxact said: "Millions are being invested by organizations in business continuity and high availability of their mission critical data centres. Fire incidents - even with traditional Fire Suppression functions in place - could potentially result in several hours to several days, maybe weeks, of IT services outage. This is quite serious; it simply means that sizeable investments and efforts in quality assurance and availability could be wasted; not to mention severe hard dollar and soft dollar losses.

"Therefore, it is very crucial to protect the system from going offline, especially from fire accidents which can, now, be effectively prevented. We have tied up with some of the leading players in the industry to develop our latest product. Most of the components used are of very high grade and is aimed at achieving the best results," he added.

TechXact is also a regional partner for Wagner's TITANUS Aspirating Smoke Detection System, an air sampling system with intelligent signal processing for fire detection.

Thomas Schaedlich, general manager of Wagner Middle East said: "We have searched for a long time to appoint a partner for the whole region, and we found TechXact, as a regional partner for Middle East and Africa, to have an excellent reputation and knowledge, and a very powerful team."
