Oracle integrator CMCS has launched the first certified Oracle Primavera training programme in Saudi Arabia ahead of what is expected to be a spike in demand for project management experts this year.

Primavera is the line of enterprise project portfolio management software that Oracle acquired at the back end of 2008. It is targeted at engineering and construction sectors, among other project-heavy industries.

According to CMCS, which is based in Dubai but has offices throughout the Middle East, the Saudi government will increase project spending by 16% to SAR260 billion (US$69 billion) in 2010, creating a demand for workers with solid project management skills.

CMCS claims that by making the Oracle Primavera training programme available in Saudi, it will be able to help cultivate project management talent across multiple industries.

"Projects being planned throughout KSA in 2010 will require systematic management and a Saudi workforce capable of dealing with any possible operational problems," said Bassam Samman, founder and CEO at CMCS.

"Our challenge is to develop and build the know-how needed by the burgeoning local projects sector to fulfill its role in a sustained economic recovery," he added.

Organisations such as Aramco, SABIC, Ministry of Interior and Royal Commission are actively encouraging their staff to take up professional training and certification courses, according to CMCS.

Samman insists that through its partnership with Oracle Primavera, it will empower project-driven companies to create a PPM-supported environment that promotes the selection and execution of the right projects.

"CMCS strongly believes that this environment can only be created by giving organisations access to the latest PPM processes, tools and best practices," he said. "We promote an empowerment model that focuses on transferring knowledge to our clients rather than making them dependent on others to run their projects."

CMCS is also certified to provide Oracle Primavera training to the other GCC countries, as well as Jordan, Lebanon and Egypt.
