Saudi Arabian chemical manufacturer Chemanol has completed an upgrade of its SAP-based core IT systems from Netweaver version 5.0 to 6.0. The company claims that features inherent to the new system will provide improved transparency for both existing and future customers.

According to Khalid Al Rabiah, CEO of Chemanol, customers can log onto the portal system using a unique identifier system and then check orders, chemical quantities, dispatches, and read detailed online reports. He also states that the completed upgrade will pave the way for future expansion of Chemanol systems.

"The main advantage from a business aspect is that SAP allows for scalability and transparency. We plan to expand during the next five years, and having the latest solutions in place will allow us to do that in a streamlined and trouble-free way," he explained.

The project went live in July and also mandated a move to a number of existing SAP modules, including finance, materials management, plant maintenance and HR. As he states, the firm completed the changes without disturbing existing systems.

"We have upgraded all the layers of our IT system: the network layer, operation layer, application layer, and database layer to SAP's NetWeaver ECC 6.0 / Windows 2008 Server (64 Bit) / and Microsoft SQL Server 2008. We are the first company in the Kingdom to go through this process, which was completed in just over four months without us having to close down any of our businesses," he states.

"SAP is committed to delivering innovation to customers by transforming business challenges into opportunities. Chemanol has been working with SAP to ensure best business processes using internationally proven solutions, a culmination of SAP's experience over more than 30 years, with thousands of successful customers in more than 25 industries," said Abdul-Raheem Bawazeer, managing director for SAP in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
