UAE-based Jumbo Electronics has opened a third store in Al Ain in response to a recent spike in business that it claims to have seen there.

The Bawadi Mall outlet takes Jumbo's store network to more than 30 in total.

Jumbo CEO Peter McElwaine, who officially launched the store earlier this month alongside retail chief JP Nambiar, insists Al Ain is an "important" market for the company.

"We have recently seen interest in consumer electronics increase in our existing stores in Abu Dhabi's garden city and with the launch of our third Al Ain store, we are well placed to meet this demand," he stated.

The store will stock a wide range of consumer electronics including cameras, handycams, laptops, mobile phones and equipment from its primary vendor partner Sony.

Despite the unpredictable trading conditions in the retail channel right now, McElwaine feels the expansion makes sense.

"Jumbo Electronics is an established company with strong foundations which have enabled us to weather the economic downturn," he said. "We do believe that the worst of the crisis is behind us, but the retail sector still faces challenges ahead. However, we remain optimistic and believe the region is well-positioned for a strong recovery. We look forward to continuing our expansion in the coming year."

It is a good move from Jumbo, also, Jumpo should show some initiatives on online sales in UAE. Get a delivery partner and they can ship items directly to customer residence. I know a lot of people buy things online and using online shopping facilities and that should be the next move for the retailers based in UAE.
