Deployment expected to “fully demonstrate” capability of TD-LTE technology, according to China Mobile boss

Huawei deploys TD-LTE tech for Shanghai World Expo LTE technologies are getting more and more interest from telecoms companies, says Huawei.

Telecoms vendor Huawei said it had deployed the world' s first TD-LTE trial network for China Mobile in November. The new network, which has an actual download speed of up to 29Mb/s will be used for the 2010 Shanghai World Expo.

Wang Jianzhou, chairman and CEO of China Mobile, said the network, which covers the entire site of 2010 Shanghai World Expo, will fully demonstrate the capability of TD-LTE technology.

The infrastructure and terminal devices deployed by Huawei will enable high definition video transmission, HD video monitoring, HD video-on-demand and mobile Internet, and will support the live broadcasting and security for the Shanghai World Expo.

"TD-LTE/SAE technologies with the advantage of low latency and high spectrum efficiency are getting increasingly more recognition from operators and telecom organisations," said Li Changzhu, vice president of China marketing at Huawei.

"As most of the significant technical innovations will be showcased during the Expo, this TD-LTE/SAE trial network is one of the most exciting innovations during the event. This network adopted Huawei's integrated LTE solution of FDD and TDD technologies, as well as the SAE core network which is being used in world-leading operators' network modernisation."

Huawei has also been appointed to deploy the world' s first LTE network for TeliaSonera and Europe' s largest LTE network for Telenor. The vendor said it has already deployed over 20 LTE/SAE trials for global operators.
