Symantec has launched the 10th version of its Data Loss Prevention Solution which it claims gives customers a mass of options to find and fix data loss problems.

Despite the fact that data loss disclosure laws are relatively sparse across the Middle East region, enterprises can ill afford the bad press that a major data leak might cause right now. DLP protection is now becoming an essential investment for CIOs and IT managers.

Symantec Data Loss Prevention 10 supposedly offers the user a great deal of flexibility in mitigating and fixing data leakage problems in their organisation and extended networks.

One of the ways that the company is ensuring that the new solution is as flexible as it promises is allowing users to apply encryption and enterprise rights management based on content and will integrate with additional solutions from the vendor under the  Symantec Workflow initiative.

"By opening our DLP platform,we give customers more choices and flexibility to better protect the sensitive information in their unique IT environments," said Francis deSouza (pictured), senior vice president, enterprise security group at Symantec.

"We're a step closer to realising the vision of true information-centric security by extending content-awareness into many layers of security," he added.

By making use of Symantec Workflow users of the DLP suite will be able to trigger policy-based actions such as automatic encryption and endpoint lock-down by Symantec's endpoint encryption and protection solutions.

Users of software-as-a-service email security solutions, such as MessageLabs Hosted Email Encryption - a Symantec Hosted Service - will be able to monitor, protect and securely deliver confidential information in outbound email without requiring on-site email gateway infrastructure.

New aspects of the DLP solution include enhanced support for XML and web services, a FlexResponse feature for creating policy-based protection to files containing confidential data and import/export capabilities.
