The Palestinian IT Association of Companies is at GITEX Technology Week to advocate the talent and potential within Palestine’s IT industry.

Mohammed Ewaida-Betawi, a member of the board of directors of the group and General Manager of software company ASD, has been talking to companies to show that the Palestinian IT market is full of talent and resources and that it is a strong option for outsourcing.

Although Palestine faces obvious barriers to growing its export business, the government in Palestine has been working with the IT association to boost and promote the prominence of the country’s software development  and intellectual property market.

“In the ICT sector there is no border and you can develop your software and sell it to other countries through email, so this is what we have become very strong at,” says Ewaida-Betawi. “This is why our government and our leaders have been encouraging us to make this sector a productive sector in our economy.”

At GITEX the group has found that there has been great interest to find out what the country can offer in terms of IT companies, solutions and outsourcing. Companies in the UAE and Saudi Arabia are said to be considering working with the group to help develop ties.

“We are working according to an action plan of promoting our sector. For instance we are a member of the Arab Association of IT companies and we have been holding meetings with them in Beirut, Cairo and in Jordan. We have a great relationship with our Arab cousins and at the same time we have support from the US and other countries.”
