With businesses under increasing pressure to reduce travel budgets as well as their carbon footprints, videoconferencing specialist Tandberg is raising awareness of the value of its collaboration tools at GULFCOMMS.

The company unveiled a programme called FlyFree during the event that is designed to help businesses save on travel costs and staff downtime.

The scheme allows businesses and other organisations the chance to save travel expenses by using videoconferencing facilities for free, by replacing a flight with use of Tandberg's Executive Briefing Centres (EBC) located in its offices around the world.

Organisations in the UAE will be able to make use of Tandberg's new Middle East head office and EBC, which is located in the newly-built Office Park Building in Dubai Internet City.

"FlyFree offers interested companies or organisations the opportunity to save costs for a trial period, while also letting them experience videoconferencing," says Munzer Aloush, Tandberg's Country Manager of UAE and Oman. "The best way to promote video, I believe, is to get people to try it for themselves."

By logging on to the programme's web site, ‘travellers' can book their session by selecting their ‘departure' and ‘destination' cities from a list of 35 possible locations. Tandberg will then reply with confirmation in the form of a ‘boarding pass' for all parties involved, and the session is booked.

According to Tandberg, an in-person meeting involving 50 participants across 10 countries can cost up to US $50,000 in travel bills and more than 1,000 hours of lost productivity.
