Qatar Telecom (Qtel) is going through a major technology upgrade, with the help of HP Middle East, which includes a comprehensive three-year Business Technology Optimisation (BTO) strategy.

Announcing the project at GITEX yesterday, Qtel's Group Communications Executive Director Adel Al Mutawa stated that phase one of the four-stage project was already completed and had "exceeded expectations". It covered Business Service Automation and ITSM, which has resulted in employee job error rates fall by 30%. With the upgrades, server roll-outs now take place in under four hours instead of a full two weeks.

The BTO project is due for completion in 2011, by which time Qtel hopes to be able to boost staff productivity and introduce support services to keep operations running reliably.

John Hoonhout, Managing Director of HP Middle East, says that the solution provides Qtel with "better flexibility and scalability for future growth allowing them to capitalise on market opportunities faster than their competition."
