Avaya today unveiled a new in-room communication device built specifically for the hospitality industry.

"Business and leisure travelers to the region are demanding a more convenient and efficient way of getting up-to-date information; they want to communicate in the Web 2.0 fashion from wherever they are," says Director Hospitality Solutions at Avaya MENA, Fredrick Sabty.

"Hotels are constantly being expected to provide information at the right time, and conveniently, to their guests along with a differentiated experience. With the customer service applications available through this device, hotels can modernise guests experience, improve employee productivity and help increase the hotel's overall revenue generation."

The device features a wide touch-screen user interface, which the communications firm says provides a modern and sophisticated look and feel, supporting full-motion streaming, video concierge and property tours that can be directly delivered to the device.

It can be localised in major languages to suit guest preferences, and comes enabled with different features that offer real-time views to property webcams of the bar, pool, spa, restaurants, and health clubs to encourage guest use.

It also enables guests to control in-room air-conditioning and lighting, order room service and surf menus, and access the internet.

"The desice can reduce the workload for front office and guest services staff, by moving non-value-added transactions to the device, allowing them to perform other guest related tasks, enhancing their productivity," Sabty adds.
