When it comes to data centres, efficient power and cooling is absolutely essential and an often overlooked investment. This is just the mindset that electrical control, power distribution and uninterruptible power supplies manufacturer Eaton is looking to dispel at this year's GITEX Technology Week.

Among the solutions that Eaton will be detailing to potential customers at GITEX will be its range of data centre power protection solutions, which include its Powerware range, its Pulsar hardware and EX RT.

Also in the enterprise and SMB space, Eaton has a variety of other power protection solutions. Among the hardware on show at GITEX is its Office Protection Systems, which include UPSs ranging from 300 VA to 1440 VA to meet the demands of today's office environments. It also has solutions that are targeted at protecting Storage Area Networks (SAN) and Network Attached Storage (NAS) within its Powerware and MGE Office Protection Systems.

The telecom and retail sectors are also firmly on the vendor's list of target end-users to snare at this year's GITEX. Point of Sale (POS) applications - aimed at companies in the retail business - range from affordable line-interactive systems, perfect for protecting POS registers, to on-line UPSs with generator capability for protecting more power hungry computer networks.

It's not just businesses that can benefit from power protection. Sandra Villiers, Marketing and Communication Manager, Middle East, Central Asia and Africa is keen to point out that Eaton's Protection Station is ideal for protecting home computers and digital leisure equipment against power-related breakdowns.

"The EcoControl function of new 650 and 800 versions delivers up to 30 percent power savings compared to previous-generation devices. Additional features such as efficient electrical design, compliance with RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances Directive of EU), and a package and user manual made from recycled materials, make these new-generation devices more environmentally friendly than ever," says Villiers.
