Storage specialist Western Digital is using GITEX Technology Week to emphasize its strengths and speciality in the storage arena. In line with this aim the firm is showing off a number of products that show off ‘the latest in technology, software and design'.

Among the products being showcased is Western Digital's new 1TB Scorpio Blue 2.5-inch SATA hard drive. Staff on hand claim this notebook-aimed drive is the industry's first 2.5-inch 1TB hard disk. Also on display is another claimed world's first in the form of the My Book Studio Edition II dual-drive storage boasting 4TB of capacity. This drive features network connectivity and targets creative professionals using both PCs and Macs.

When asked about the company's perception of the Middle East market, Didier Trassaert, Senior Director of Western Digital's EMEA Branded Products says: "The PC market is slowing down right now and there is only a very modest growth forecasted for the remainder of 2009. However, notebook drives are still selling well with capacity points only increasing. In addition, external drives are in good shape as people have a need for add-on storage and backup of their increasingly growing collection of digital content. We expect that the storage sector, particularly external storage, will continue to do well in comparison to other segments of the market."

Trassaert is ultimately optimistic about the Middle East market and sees the trade show as a fantastic opportunity with which his company can directly address ‘one of the fastest growing technology markets in the world'.
