Keying in

Given that we wanted Dream Machine 09 to be an awesome PC that could be used to tackle applications and games for hours on end, we wanted a top of the line keyboard to aid usability. A great keyboard will ease your computing experience in terms of preventing aches and pains and can also save you time with useful shortcut keys.

After scouring the web and going through our own backlog of reviews, we eventually settled on Logitech’s amazing G19. Although Logitech has positioned this as a gaming keyboard, it is extremely able as an everyday interface when tackling application work too. It boasts a number of shortcut keys for volume control and media playback control and, as a bonus, packs a powered USB2.0 hub and features an intelligent cable management system too.

The keyboard also features responsive, soft-touch keys that are backlit so you can work or play even in a darkened room. From a gaming perspective the keyboard is nothing short of mind-blowing because it features 12 programmable ‘G-keys’ that can be used to store three macros each. This means you can easily program a total of 36 functions, which will give you an edge on the field of battle.

Perhaps the G19’s greatest feature is its tiltable colour ‘GamePanel’ LCD. With a resolution of 320 x 240 pixels the LCD can be setup to display game information or even system information, video playback information and more. The G19 also features with a palm-rest as standard, so you can work on applications or game for hours without worrying about aches and pains.
