IBM has introduced a web-based email service for the corporate sector that will be priced inexpensively at $3 a month.

LotusLive iNotes - an e-mail, calendaring and contact management system - can be accessed online by employees anytime. It integrates LotusLive Engage, IBM's social networking and collaboration cloud service, to offer a host of features including file storing and sharing, instant messaging and activity management.

iNotes will go up against Google Apps Premier Edition that also allows online messaging and collaboration for businesses but at a cost of $50 per user annually.

In comparison, iNotes starts at $36 ($3 a month) for a yearly plan, and $3.75 per month for a monthly plan - both of which include webmail, contacts and calendaring, 1GB of storage per user, built-in spam and virus protection and support for mobile devices.

Customers also have the option of sampling iNotes before making a decision to purchase the service through a 30-day free trial.
