The 40th instalment of the world’s largest consumer electronics exhibition, the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES), kicks off in Las Vegas this month, with organisers predicting a record turnout for the event. The International CES will include more than 20 TechZones showcasing products from every sector of the consumer electronics market, with a particular emphasis on wireless technology in 2007.

This year’s event will also feature a specific focus on in-car entertainment technologies, according to Karen Chupka, senior vice president of events and conferences at the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA). The CEA estimates that factory- to-dealer sales of in-vehicle technologies in the US alone will reach $9.6 billion in 2007.

“This year’s CES will feature more than 240 mobile electronics exhibitors, making it one of the largest showcases for in-car technologies in the world,” she said.

“The mobile technology market is an extremely important one to CES and to the global attendees who flock to our show. For this reason, we also feature mobile technology related TechZones, partner programs and conferences devoted to showcasing this category to CES attendees.”

Leading mobile entertainment vendors including Alpine Electronics, Clarion, Delphi, JVC, Monster and Rockford Fosgate, have confirmed their involvement at CES 2007.

They will showcase their latest technologies as part of the Digital Car/Telematics TechZone, which Chupka claimed would feature the most innovative digital in-car products from audio/visual entertainment to navigation devices and “intelligent transportation systems”.

She also explained that 40 of the 175 conference sessions at this year’s CES would focus on mobile electronics, with topics including ‘The Driver Performance Issues’, ‘Taking Entertainment on the Road’ and ‘Aftermarket Integration of Radio and Safety Equipment for Vehicles’.

CES 2007 will be staged at the Las Vegas Convention Centre and the Sands Expo and Convention Centre in Las Vegas, Nevada, from 8-11 January.
