Vodafone Qatar has announced that 100,000 customers have sign up to the company's services, two months ago after their launch.

Of these 100,000 customers, about half have opened a Freedom account - Vodafone's postpay-equivalent product while the others have joined RED - Vodafone's new way to prepay which was launched earlier this month.

Most of the new customers have joined Vodafone through their retail stores located across Qatar while over 30 percent have joined via the online store, the company said in a statement.

"We are thrilled by these amazing results which are exceeding our expectations and targets," said Grahame Maher, chief executive officer, Vodafone Qatar.

Earlier this month, the company said it had achieved 99 percent population coverage with its new network, and was confident of capturing 40-60 percent market share within 10 years.

The rival to Qatar's Qtel added that it hopes to have its permanent towers up and in place by next year.
