Network and storage applications vendor NetApp has announced the availability of Data ONTAP 8 and other new data management and storage solutions intended to be used in cloud environments.

The vendor says that the rolling out of the cloud-aimed solutions comes as a response to the global market shift towards a model of IT delivered as a service and the changing way that IT managers are now looking at their data centres and infrastructure.

NetApp is primed to take advantage of this major shift in the market by providing enterprises with not only the industry-leading storage and data management solutions that are ideal for the cloud, but, more importantly, also serve as the technology partner of choice to guide enterprises on their journey in deploying a cloud infrastructure,” said Tom Georgens, president and chief executive officer at NetApp.

The new solutions build on the cloud capabilities of the ONTAP platform with enhanced functionality for virtualised and shared infrastructure environments, including non-disruptive data mobility, dynamic growth through a scale-out architecture, and 64-bit storage aggregates to support multi-petabyte deployments.

The vendor claims that the rehashed version of the platform addresses the challenges in deploying a cloud storage infrastructure. This is done by features including secure multi-tenancy,iv letting end-users deploy shared infrastructure across separate user groups or enterprise customers with MultiStore technology, transparent data motion, which allows for non-disruptive data access during mandatory shutdowns or upgrades, and integrated data protection which encapsulates built-in backup and recovery capabilities.

In addition to that the vendor has announced an array of new of products, solutions and services intended to “empower the cloud”. All of the mentioned solutions and services have been made available to customers of NetApp globally, including those in the Middle East.
