Shift Technologies has announced a franchise agreement to establish the Arabian operations of open standards and interoperability organisation The Open Group.

The Open Group is a vendor- and technology-neutral consortium that focuses on the development of open standards and the support of programs such as The Open Group Architecture Framework (TOGAF).

The local franchise will operate as The Open Group Arabia, and will represent Arabic-speaking countries in the Middle East and North Africa. The group's role will be to provide localized access to TOGAF, to establish local forums to support programs and to recruit new members and promote global open standards.

Abdallah El Kadi, CEO, Shift Technologies, commented: "We're very pleased to be representing The Open Group to Arabic-speaking countries and to be expanding our relationship with the organization beyond the TOGAF certification programs we're already offering to our customers.

"The Open Group's mission of achieving Boundary-less Information Flow between business and IT is an important part of the consulting and IT services we provide to our customers. We're also looking forward to further educating companies in our region about how enterprise architecture frameworks and security standards can be of benefit to how companies operate and help them achieve their business goals. The Open Group Arabia clearly has a very bright future ahead of it."

The local operation will become the fifth international franchise for the organization, and will represent Algeria, Bahrain, Egypt, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Morocco, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia, United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Yemen.

Allen Brown, president and CEO for The Open Group said: "As companies have continued to extend their global footprints, adopting standards focused on interoperability and collaboration among employees and partners has become increasingly imperative.

"Shift Technologies has already been a strong and established member of The Open Group in the United Arab Emirates through the TOGAF training and certification program they provide. Through The Open Group Arabia, Shift Technologies' ability to further promote global standards to companies in the region is an important step toward our goal of facilitating better access to information among different enterprises, firewalls and borders."
