Patriot Xporter Magnum 64GB

Patriot Memory intended its Xporter Magnum flash drive to be the ‘perfect solution to transport your important data wherever you go’ and, we’re happy to report the Magnum is almost as good as perfect.

From a capacity standpoint, the Xporter is massive, offering a storage capacity of 64Gbytes. If you were using this drive purely as a flash drive to transfer images, you could easily cram over 5000 six-megapixel photos onto it and still have over 30Gbytes free for other data. As a result, you’ll never find yourself wishing you had more portable space and, as a result of its very aggressive US $149 asking price, the Patriot is great value-for-money too.

Beyond its massive capacity, the Magnum is a great performer as well. Using our HDTach 3 synthetic benchmark first, the Patriot returned average read and burst speed figures that eclipsed the numbers produced by the Corsair Survivor GT, Verbatim Store ‘n’ Go Pro and Imation’s Atom.

The real world test results proved even more pleasing because it was able to complete our 1.2Gbyte transfer (from hard disk to USB drive) in one minute and 20 seconds. This makes the Magnum as quick as Imation’s Atom in terms of writing performance. When it came to reading performance (copying the file from the flash drive back to the hard drive), the Patriot took just 36 seconds; the quickest result we’ve seen to date.

The only thing missing is security software that allows you to password protection or partition the drive securely.
