A quality power supply (PSU) is essential if you want your rig to run smoothly when running intensive applications and games. With the TX750W PSU, Corsair is targeting discerning enthusiasts interested in powering their high-end PCs with a PSU that is cost-effective, quiet and able. Is it up to the mark?

Like many of the products we’ve tested in the past from Corsair, the TX750W doesn’t disappoint. The PSU is finished in a dark gray colour like the HX620 (also from Corsair) we reviewed before but unlike the HX620, the newer PSU doesn’t feature modular cables. This means the PSU’s various connectors are hard wired into the supply directly, so you can’t detach them or attach them. That said, considering the TX750W boasts very aggressive pricing - given its 750-watt capacity - we think this is a worthwhile tradeoff.

The power supply boasts a quality finish on the outside and is based on a single +12-volt rail design. The cables themselves are very long, so you should have absolutely no trouble reach devices even in a full tower case.

Putting the Corsair to the test, the PSU never skipped a beat; it powered our 3.2GHz Core 2 Extreme system equipped with three GTX 260 cards running looping benchmarks for days on end. Throughout testing the PSU’s 140mm cooling fan never became very audible and we also found the PSU was 78% energy efficient.

Verdict: A quality PSU that can easily tackle the power requirements of high-end multi-GPU rigs.
