Thanks to this, it can be carried at all times and as it's equipped with a host of input options, you can connect source devices with ease. The PK101 features an iPod connector, so you can easily hook up an iPod and project videos or even photographs onto a wall or other surface. With the right cable you can also connect this projector to your cell phone giving it yet more flexibility. Fantastic.
Setting up the projector is painless; you simply fit the supplied batteries, use the cable to hook the projector up to a sourc, turn on the projector, point it at a wall and focus it.
Optoma claims the batteries can deliver two hours of life when running in low-brightness and one hour when running in high. In testing we found these were slightly conservative, as the projector lasted two hours and five minutes and one hour and ten minutes.
With a brightness rating of 11 Lumens, the Pico is bright enough to handle most tasks and the DLP’s 1000:1 contrast ratio offers decent colour accuracy and the Optoma performed best when generating a 27-inch image. Moving the PK101 further away, we noticed reduced brightness.
Verdict: An impressive projector that despite being a first-of-its-kind performs well and offers serious functionality.
