After promising to say no more about a possible Yahoo! bid until after the next Yahoo! board meeting, Microsoft has attempted a smash-and-grab raid for Yahoo's search business.

According to CNN, Microsoft, spurred on by Carl Icahn, made yet another approach to the Yahoo! board late on Friday to buy the search business, with a deal that gave Yahoo! just 24 hours to respond.

Yahoo! predictably, was not impressed, describing the offer as "ludicrous", and demonstrating "erratic and unpredictable behavior" from Microsoft and its "odd and opportunistic alliance" with Icahn.

Steve Ballmer erratic and unpredictable? Surely not. (Some things will never get old).
