Region not falling short

Dear Editor,

I was surprised to read in your article that the region is facing a shortage of skilled IT security professionals (see IT Weekly 9-15 September 2006).

I myself am a highly qualified IT consultant with experience of deploying security software from several vendors in complex enterprise environments who chose to move from the US to Dubai to take up a position there.

In my view the Middle East, where the IT industry is just taking off and organisations are building complex IT infrastructures from scratch, is one of the most exciting places in the world to work.

Any IT professional worth their weight in gold should relish the challenge of putting their skills to work in such an environment.

Coupled with that is the tax-free salary, all-year round sunshine and fantastic standard of living and you’ve got a winning formula.

These IT professionals slogging their guts out in London or New York should wake up, smell the coffee and move to where the real action is — the Middle East.

Yours, contented IT consultant,

Dubai, UAE.
