Miercom, a leading provider of independent test services has certified 3Com’s H3C enterprise switch range as the most energy efficient available in the market.

In tests, Miercom reported that 3Com’s 24- and 48-port H3C 5500-EI stackable switches are up to 40% more energy efficient in terms of energy used per gigabits per second of performance. The H3C S7506E modular, multilayer 10-Gigabit and gigabit were found to be 24% more efficient.

Miercom also awarded the products ‘Miercom Green Certified’ status after assessing the “overall environmental impact and business enabling green benefits” of the solutions. Through the use of 90nm silicon technology, which increases performance without increasing power usage, Miercom said that the solutions provide 35% increase in processor speed, while reducing active power needs by 60%.

3Com says that it has designed its entire enterprise range with overall TCO in mind, and also follows international guidelines on the use of non-hazardous materials and recycling of products.

Mahmoud El-Ali, general manager, 3Com Middle East & North Africa commented: “Our commitment to developing products with low ‘TCO by design’ sets our H3C portfolio apart from the competition.

“Using merchant silicon instead of proprietary ASICs, the H3C portfolio features the most modern and low-power chipsets available. By developing products that use far less power than the industry average, 3Com enables enterprises to reduce capital expenditures and spend less money on energy to run their networks. This embodies 3Com’s commitment to ‘no-compromise’ networks, where enterprises don’t have to compromise performance and features in order to save money,” he added.
