Egypt’s Mantrac Group has deployed Riverbed’s Steelhead WAN optimization appliances across eleven locations cutting bandwidth costs by 75%, the company reports.

Mantrac Group, an authorized dealer for Caterpillar construction vehicles and plant, says that it has realized savings of $300,000, and seen ROI in ten months.

The Steelhead appliances were installed at the company’s Cairo HQ and ten other locations by Riverbed reseller IP-Protocol Inc.

Mantrac wanted to automate business processes while reducing costs through an IT consolidation project, which required a more reliable network infrastructure, according to Amgad Yassin, group business solutions manager at Mantrac Group.

“We wanted to improve our data collection system and automate a number of business processes, while reducing operational costs. In order to achieve this, senior management proposed an IT consolidation project. However, for this project to be successful, we recognized that users would need fast and reliable access to data over the wide area network (WAN). This would be critical to the success of our business,” he said.

Riverbed was selected after proof of concept testing of its solutions, plus Citrix and Cisco solutions, with Riverbed being selected due to best results when uploading and downloading CIFS, MAPI and HTTP files and price-to-performance ratio, according to Yassin.
