There is no doubt that the telecoms sector is a tough industry, with margins constantly under pressure amid fierce competition. Despite this, operators throughout the region continue to expand and bring genuine benefits to individuals and businesses, particularly in emerging markets.

But while the companies and individuals involved in the telecom industry continue the hard the work of developing the sector, it is important to take a step back and look at exactly what the industry has achieved. And this is exactly what the fourth edition of the CommsMEA Awards, to be held in Dubai on Tuesday, December 8th, aims to achieve.

This year’s ceremony will award companies and telecom professionals for outstanding achievement across 15 categories, including three new awards categories to recognise the achievements of vendors and regulators.

This year’s categories are:

• Customer Service Provider of the Year
• Telecoms Deal of the Year
• Fixed Line Operator of the Year
• ISP of the Year
• Lifetime Achievement Award
• New Entrant of the Year
• New Telecoms Service of the Year
• Overall Operator of the Year
• Middle East Mobile Operator of the Year
• African Mobile Operator of the Year
• Most Innovative Non-Voice Service
• Telecoms Technology Investment of the Year
• Middle East vendor of the year
• African vendor of the year
• Regulator initiative of the year

While the closing date for entries, November 12, might seem a long way off, we recommend that you visit our dedicated awards website at www.itp.net/cmea-awards, and start considering your entries without delay.

As with the previous editions, making an entry is simple.

Just download the official form in the “nomination process” section of the website and follow the instructions. Information about why your company is a worthy winner of your selected category should run to no more than 1000 words, and must be submitted by no later than 6pm, November 12. Companies are free to enter nominations for more than one category.

Also remember that smaller operators and solutions providers have as much chance of winning an award as the region’s leading operators. The reason is simple: Each nomination is judged on merit, and smaller operators and start-ups are just as likely to have demonstrated excellence in their field as the region’s heavyweights.

Once we have collated all of the entries, each application will be assessed and judged by a panel of international industry experts and consultants. A shortlist of nominations will be selected and award winners will be announced and presented at the ceremony in December, among 350 plus people representing the cream of the region’s telecoms sector.

If you have any queries about how to enter a nomination, please don’t hesitate to send me an email me at roger.field@itp.com, or give me a call on 00971 4 210 8419.
