IBM has laid the groundwork for the future of Saudi Arabia’s e-government services by successfully deploying the technical infrastructure for the Kingdom’s ambitious Yesser eGovernment Program.

The multi-year eGovernment Service Bus (GSB) project will now deliver the core communication and security infrastructure necessary for the Yesser program, which will eventually see everyone in the country have anytime access to government services.

“The importance of electronic communication in providing efficient public services is recognized in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Through our partnership with IBM, we have put in place the core infrastructure required to move the large majority of government processes in Saudi Arabia into the information society,” said Engineer Ali S. Al Soma, director general of the Yesser eGovernment Program.

The GSB project supports a staged roll-out of nearly a thousand government processes that are presently being delivered manually. Over the next few years, these processes will be handled by a system that supports online, voice and mobile device access.

IBM revealed that this is the largest project of its kind ever achieved in Saudi Arabia. Aside from IBM hardware, software and research inclusions, the project saw Power System and System x servers, as well as DataPower devices hosting IBM SOA middleware products, installed at eight different sites in the country.

“Today marks an important milestone in the Yesser eGovernment Program where IBM has added true value and we look forward to extending our highly successful relationship in Saudi Arabia,” added Takreem El Tohamy, general manager, IBM MENA.
