Jeremy Allison, an open-source programmer with Novell, has resigned because of objections concerning Novell’s patent agreement with Microsoft, according to a report on Zdnet.com.

Allison is understood to be moving to global search engine Google.

In a leaked resignation letter, Novell said that he believed the patent agreement went against the firm’s relations with the open-source community.

“Whilst the Microsoft patent agreement is in place there is nothing we can do to fix community relations…Until the patent provision is revoked, we are pariahs,” Allison allegedly said in the letter.
