The Planet Partners programme is a free service provided to HP customers to recycle printing supplies and has been around since 1991. Beginning in July, the Californian-based company will enable business customers in the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Bulgaria to participate in the service currently offered in over 50 countries.

“Environmental responsibility has represented a core value of HP since the company’s earliest days,” explained Jean-Pierre Le Calvez, vice president, marketing of the Imaging and Printing Group at HP EMEA.

The technology giant operates the initiative through the Planet Partners website, with customers able to sign up by selecting ‘enterprise and public sector’ or the ‘SMB’ option and then specifying the number of empty print cartridges that need to be recycled. Following this, a collection box is sent to the business which is then collected by HP – when it is full – and taken to a cartridge recycling facility.

“IPG has made a strong contribution to helping companies reduce their environmental footprint through landmark initiatives such as the HP Planet Partners Program. With this latest expansion, we are delighted to be bringing this service to business customers for the first time in these critical growth markets,” added Le Calvez.

According to a statement released by HP, the turn-around time for used cartridge collection and delivery is five business days.

I hope this program could be extended in the future to cover other HP products such as printers, PCs, etc. Getting rid of old, broken, or outdated It equipment in an environmentally friendly way should be a major concern.

Great Idea and about time they offered this service here but the UAE is still not listed on the site as an available Region.. and before i start getting flammed... I know it says the service will be available by 1st July But you should still be able to register/signup.. oh and BTW there is no option to selct ‘enterprise and public sector’ or the ‘SMB’ option.
