Sun Microsystems distributor Tech Access has filled the country manager vacancy at its Saudi operation by hiring Wael Waheed from rival Mindware.

Waheed, who was responsible for Mindware’s Dell franchise in Saudi Arabia, has already taken up his new post at the company.

His role will involve overseeing the development of Tech Access’ business in the Saudi market and driving sales of the enterprise storage and security brands that it carries.

“Wael joined us a week ago as country manager, based in Riyadh,” confirmed Tech Access CEO Tony Ward. “He is a very well-known and respected member of the Saudi IT community so I think he will do a great job.”

Waheed replaces Saleh Al-Mutairi, who recently quit Tech Access to become the general manager of FVC in Saudi Arabia.

His appointment comes as Tech Access looks to ramp up its business in the Kingdom. CEO Tony Ward is increasingly spending more time there and says the company is aiming to strengthen its in-country presence.

“My two key investments for this year are Saudi and Pakistan,” he revealed. “We are going to be opening up another two offices in Jeddah and Damman and via Tech Access Pakistan we have three offices in Pakistan already.”
