Etisalat customers can now send multimedia messages to any mobile number in the world using the telco’s enhanced Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS).

Covering more than 700 MMS operators around the world, the messages will be charged at present international MMS rates – AED 1.80 for 50KB, with a maximum limit of 600KB. The rates however could vary based on the chosen destination and partner operator.

Etisalat presently has an international MMS agreement that spans 54 countries and 84 operators but the enhanced solution will now allow messages to be sent to any mobile number in the world, even to those that don’t have a direct agreement with the telco.

In such cases, a free SMS notification will be sent to the receiver, providing a link and password to download the MMS through an online portal.

“With social networking becoming popular throughout the world, interactive technologies like MMS are gaining momentum. Today, MMS-capable handset penetration is very high in many developed markets including the UAE, substantiating the huge opportunity and vast potential this medium of communication presents to our customer,” commented Khalifa Al Shamsi, VP of Marketing at Etisalat.
