Former general manager of HP ProCurve John McHugh will now be heading Nortel Networks’ enterprise solutions business, ChannelWeb has revealed.

Known as the ‘Godfather of ProCurve’, McHugh is credited with building the networking brand from a start-up to the respected $1 billion business it is today. He stepped down from the post of ProCurve’s VP and worldwide general manager in June last year, though the reasons for his departure were never disclosed.

Many are now eager to see what he can do for Nortel Networks, which filed for bankruptcy protection just last month after posting its largest quarterly loss in seven years ($3.4 billion).

As the newly appointed vice president and general manager of Nortel’s enterprise solutions, McHugh will oversee the entire portfolio of data networking products for the enterprise market and will offer expertise for the development of Ethernet technologies for Nortel’s carrier business.
