The Hamdan Bin Mohammed e-University, the first online university in the Arab region, has been launched.

The web-based initiative has been named after Dubai Crown Prince Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum who switched on the internet portal on Sunday.

The e-university aims to help people who wish to continue education in their chosen fields at their own pace, news agency WAM reported.

The web portal will broadcast lessons and lectures across the internet enabling the registered students to study at home.

Vice chancellor of the university, Mansour Al Our, said the e-university was the result of continuous efforts to find modern media for education.

The Hamdan Bin Mohammed e-University has international recognition by major educational institutions and world universities in addition to full academic accreditation by all the national institutions including the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.

Is this going to be accredited? Will degrees from this e-university be recognized by the UAE Government?
