There’s been an explosion of spam messages claiming that Barack Obama has refused to become the next president of the United States.

The spam campaign uses sensational subject lines such as ‘Breaking news about Barack Obama’, ‘Barack Obama doesn’t want to be next president’, ‘Barack Obama abandoned us’ and ‘The USA left without president’.

The email contains a hyperlink that directs visitors to a fake webpage, designed to look like the official Obama-Biden campaign website.

Accessing any link on the website exposes visitors to a malicious software known as ‘Waledac’ that's known to steal information stored on your computer, enable hackers to remotely access your system and even turn your machine into a spam zombie.

Security experts at Trend Micro have also observed other fake news websites designed to spread the malware and advises people to only visit reputed news organizations for information.

Interest in US politics has never been this high with millions around the world expected to watch the inauguration ceremony that will see Barack Obama sworn in as the 44th president of the United States live later today.
