Getting personal

What is a website if you don’t have your very own personalised email, such as email@youraddress.com?

Step 4.

Alternatively, you might rather want your default email client to be the popular open source Thunderbird, from Mozilla, the same group of people who designed the Mozilla Firefox browser.

Once you've downloaded Mozilla Thunderbird onto your computer, run the program and navigate to the "Tools" menu option. Once you've clicked on this menu option, click on "Account Settings".

You will then be presented with a screen upon which you click on the "Add Account" button. Then check the "Email Account" radio button. Enter your name and email address and click on the "Next" button.

Then you'll be presented with a screen that allows you to enter your server information. Be sure to check the "POP" radio button and the incoming server and outgoing server information (which you would have hopefully written down).

You'll then need to enter the incoming username and the outgoing username for access to your email on your server. Both usernames are one and the same thing.

But what happens if you go on holiday or leave without your laptop and you are not in a position to check your email? You then need to be able to configure Gmail to receive your email online.
