Enterprise data control

The Middle East faces many of the same obstacles that the more mature markets of Europe and North America face when it comes to the question of data leakage and loss. Beyond Encryption Technologies is looking to help regional enterprises combat this issue through its advanced data security solutions.
According to John Fitzgerald, CEO of Beyond Encryption Technologies, the solutions offered by his company are able to provide a high level of security across both mobile and more traditional devices.
"Firstly, the most important thing to realise is that this is not simply an encryption solution. Our product has the ability to track and find data across any device, no matter where the device is located, and then to protect it," said Fitzgerald.
Fitzgerald explained that the company is focused on what he calls ‘data control' as opposed to data monitoring or data encryption. "I think of these two technologies as passive security which may work. We built our solution to give enterprises a weapon," said Fitzgerald.
The technology is designed to allow organisations to reach into devices used to access enterprise information, and take that data back, if necessary. In addition, the solution allows companies to quarantine the information that is at risk, right to the device-level, by putting a layer of enterprise encryption on top of it.
"Companies can also reach into remote devices and securely erase the information off those devices, and finally if the company decides that the device is beyond their control they can send a command and lock it out putting the device beyond use. This is all designed to give the organisation the ability to have actual control of the data," explained Fitzgerald.
Fitzgerald, who was recently in the region to meet prospective channel partners, says an announcement will be made shortly regarding a prominent distributor.
"Our solution is a dual one in that it is both a civilian and military solution. I was looking for a partner with the ability to target both the commercial sector and the public military sector. I am confident that I have found the right partner," asserted Fitzgerald.
Initially, the company will operate through its partner, and Fitzgerald is adamant that if they do enter the market directly it will be to assist in terms of service and support and not in competition with its channel.
"I am a big believer in the fact that we are a technology development and deployment organisation. I want to have relationships with my channel partners where they feel that they are not competing with me but working with me. So, the first thing is to take my partners and make sure that they are successful," said Fitzgerald.
Having operated in various capacities in the Middle East over the last few years, Fitzgerald believes that his company's technology is uniquely placed to take advantage of the growing awareness on security.
"Even two years ago this solution would not have got any attention but as previously closed networks are starting to open up to outside partners so the related security issues are growing," he said.
While the region, according to Fitzgerald, is growing in awareness he maintains that that there are still obstacles to be negotiated. The biggest obstacle that the company has faced is that of the newness of the technology involved.
"This is a sea-change technology and as such is something IT professionals have not seen before. It demands an open mind to see it and appreciate it for what it is worth. The challenge is to find those early adopters who are thinking beyond the obvious and put security first," Fitzgerald noted.
"The cost to test this solution is not an enterprise budget breaker. We want organisations to take it and see if it works for them," concluded Fitzgerald.
