Atlantis among UAE's most Googled searches in 2008

Search engine giant releases details of its 2008 Zeitgeist, reveals UAE's web habits.

The Atlantis Hotel in Dubai has been included in a Google top 10 of common internet searches in the UAE for 2008.

The new $1.5 billion hotel and resort on Palm Jumeirah, which was officially opened last month in a star-studded party, entered the list at number nine, behind Beijing 2008 which was the most searched phrase in the country this year.

The 2008 Year-End Google Zeitgeist offers a unique perspective on the year's major events and hottest trends based on global searches, as well as searches conducted in UAE and 35 other countries.

In the UAE, the fastest rising web queries also included Emirates ID, Obama and Bahrain Air while most common used economy-related searches in the country included recession, oil and inflation.

Other Google lists published also included the top 10 most popular search terms related to the economy and the fastest rising lists of vacations, famous people and restaurants residents of the UAE are searching for.

Globally, the fastest rising queries included Sarah Palin, Facebook login, Heath Ledger and Euro 2008.

Was Atlantis Googled because of the imprisoned Whale-Shark Sammy or their fireworks? Since the Whale-Shark made a bigger global out-roar I since in this case it is not a god sign for Atlantis to be in the Top 10. Or do People search for the sunken Atlantis even?
